Der Evaluierungsgegenstand JBoss stellt einen Java Anwendungsserver bereit, welcher Java Anwendungen via Netzwerkschnittstellen zur Verfügung stellt. Für diese Anwendungen ist JBoss die Ausführungsumgebung, in der verschiedene unterstützende Java Dienste und Bibliotheken angeboten werden. Diese angebotenen Dienste und Bibliotheken erlauben es den Anwendungsentwicklern, sich auf die Funktion der Anwendung zu konzentrieren, anstelle Arbeit in Randfunktionen zu stecken. Zum Beispiel muss ein Anwendungsentwickler sich nicht um Netzwerkprotokolle für RPC-Mechanismen und die Serialisierung von Funktionsaufrufen mit deren Parametern kümmern, da diese Funktionalität von JBoss übernommen wird.
The TOE provides an application server allowing users to access applications over various network protocols. JBoss executes Java applications which are registered and executed by the application server. JBoss provides an execution environment for Java application offering a wide variety of Java support mechanisms to allow developers to focus on logic they are interested in instead of spending too much effort on auxiliary. For example, a developer of networked Java application can focus on the API methods implementing its RPC interface. The developer however does not need to spend time on the particular network protocol which transmits the data over the wire.
