AIX ist ein multi-user, multi-tasking Betriebssystem. Es ist kompatibel mit allen großen internationalen Standards für UNIX Systeme: POSIX, X/Open XPG4, SPEC 1170 und FIPS180-3. Es stellt eine Basis für unterschiedliche Anwendungen im Geschäfts- und Behördenumfeld bereit. AIX läuft auf diversen IBM Systemen, von Abteilungsservern bis hin zu Enterprise Systemen. AIX ist auf logischen Partitionen (LPAR) betreibbar.
The AIX operating system is a general purpose, multi-user, multi-tasking operating system. It is compliant with major international standards for UNIX systems, such as the Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX) standards, X/Open Portability Guide (XPG) 4, and Spec 1170. It provides a platform for a variety of applications in the governmental and commercial environment. AIX is available on a broad range of computer systems from IBM, ranging from departmental Servers to multi-processor enterprise servers, and is capable of running in a Logical Partition (LPAR) environment.
