The consumer market offers a growing range of smart home devices. These devices can be used to improve personal comfort and are therefore very popular with consumers. Smart radiator thermostats in particular are in demand due to their savings potential during the heating period. This study therefore focusses on data security when using these devices. Following a market analysis, the security features of selected smart radiator thermostats and the IT security awareness of the manufacturers and retailers of the products were analysed using a qualitative survey.
