The security module in question provides cryptographic core routines for creating and verifying signatures, generating and issuing keys, and generating random numbers for smart meter gateways. It also serves as a form of secure storage for the cryptographic key material of such gateways.
To define and document the functionality of the security module in a suitable manner, the BSI created a corresponding protection profile.
