Application for the IT Security Label

Please use our online application tool via the Federal Portal (German), it’s the easiest and most convenient way of applying for an IT Security Label.

In cases where you may not use the online application tool or your intended product category is not yet digitally available, please use the offline application documents and hand in your application by mail.

Application process

For the issuance of an IT Security Label we need from you:

  • Fully completed application for the respective product category
  • Product images for publication on the BSI website
  • Current extract from the commercial register (not older than 6 months)
  • If applicable, further supplementary annexes to the application

Please note that, regardless of the outcome of the procedure, an administrative fee will be charged for processing the application. We therefore recommend that you clarify with us any open questions regarding your specific product before submitting your application for an IT Security Label. Simply contact us at: it-sicherheitskennzeichen@bsi.bund.de.

To submit an application, please follow these steps:

Procedure overview

1. Conformity Assessment

Before submitting an application, manufacturers and service providers must check if their product meets the IT security requirements of the IT Security Label. You may carry out this conformity assessment yourself or assign it to a testing body of your choice. Once you have confirmed compliance with the security requirements, you can submit your application.

2. Download application

Use the application documents provided at the bottom of this page for your corresponding product category. Additional information on IT security requirements can be found linked in each category.

It is not possible to submit an application outside the listed product categories. The BSI is constantly developing new product categories for the IT Security Label.

3. Fill out the application

Fill out the downloaded PDF form on your computer and save the completed form without signing it.

4. Send application by e-mail

Send the completed application with all attachments, supporting documents and product images in digital form by e-mail to it-sicherheitskennzeichen@bsi.bund.de. No signatures are required for this e-mail. Please do not use scanned documents.

5. Print out and sign the application

Print out the complete application documents and sign the application in the required places. It is not necessary to print out the product images.

6. Send the application by post

Send the documents in a stamped letter to:

After receipt of the complete application documents, you will receive a confirmation of receipt from us and the issuing procedure will begin.

No application is possible outside the listed product categories. The BSI is constantly developing new product categories for the IT Security Label.
