A VPN Client (VPNC) is a product type used to establish cryptographically secured data transmission between a local user and a remote trusted user or another trusted network over a potentially insecure network. In this document, "trusted network" means a network capable of securely transmitting VS-NfD classified data.

While connecting a client computer to a central network by means of a VPN Client, various physical configurations are considered: For example 1.) A VPNC which is the entire client computer, 2.) A VPN Client that is implemented as a software product that runs on the client computer, or 3.) A VPN Client that is implemented by means of a VPN box.
