SINA over time

The BSI commissioned secunet Security Networks AG with the development of SINA in 1999 as part of a tender process. SINA products are now used around the world in both public institutions and commercial enterprises. In Germany, SINA is used by numerous public authorities, businesses working with classified information and KRITIS systems. The product range has grown over time, and the names of individual products have changed slightly as a result:

  • SINA Workstation used to be called SINA Virtual Workstation
  • SINA L3 Box used to be called SINA Box
  • SINA Terminal used to be called SINA Thin Client
  • SINA One Way used to be called SINA One Way Gateway

The security mechanisms and cryptographic algorithms are also being constantly adjusted in line with state-of-the-art technology. For example, at the lower classifications, the cryptographic algorithm CHIASMUS has been replaced by AES. At the higher classifications, the cryptographic algorithm LIBELLE, which is implemented via HSM (Hardware Security Module), is gradually being replaced by a new, approved algorithm.
