There are currently various online voting products on the market. If an election or a vote is to be conducted online, the question arises for the election management as to which product is suited best. Online elections must be protected by IT security measures in particular.

IT security certification assures that a certain number of security objectives are covered. Among other things, the certification provides information on whether cryptographic processes are used in accordance with the current state of the art in order to deliver an authentic election result and at the same time protect the secrecy of the ballot.

In 2024, the BSI published a new Common Criteria protection profile for online voting products. It can be found on our website in the list of certified protection profiles.
