Polish Minister of Digital Affairs Dr. Krzysztof Gawkowski visits BSI

International exchange on threats in cyberspace

The Polish Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Affairs Dr. Krzysztof Gawkowski visited the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) at its location in Bonn and met the Vice President of the BSI, Dr. Gerhard Schabhüser. In a confidential setting, both sides exchanged on the current geopolitical threat landscape and its impact on cyber security in Poland and Germany.

At a tour through the national IT situation centre at BSI, Dr. Krzysztof Gawkowski was interested in the functionalities and equipment of the centre. Dr. Gerhard Schabhüser presented the BSI initiative Cybernation Deutschland. Both sides talked about the priorities of the upcoming Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first half of 2025. Together, they discussed strategies and measures, to put cyber security in Poland and Germany higher up on the agenda. Additionally, they talked about an intensification of the cooperation between BSI and its Polish counterpart NASK, which is located in the portfolio of the Ministry of Digital Affairs.

Minister of Digital Affairs Dr. Krzysztof Gawkowski: 'Cyberspace faces challenges that transcend national borders, and an effective response to them requires close international cooperation. We are glad to see the dynamic development of cooperation between Poland's NASK and Germany's BSI, which is based on mutual trust and information sharing. This allows our countries can more effectively strengthen resilience to digital threats and raise the level of online security.'

BSI Vice President Dr. Gerhard Schabhüser: 'Cyber-attacks don’t stop at borders. The increase of threats in cyber space can only be countered by joint efforts with our international partners. The cooperation with NASK is characterized by mutual trust and constructive exchanges. Therefore, an intensification of the cooperation is in the best sense for cyber security in Germany.'
